Doris
Bennett
August 27, 1927 – March 29, 2013
Homegoing services for Mrs. Doris Bennett of Tampa, who departed this life on Good Friday, March 29, 2013, will be held on Saturday, April 6th, 12:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, with Rev. Michael Neely, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Doris Bennett was born in Waycross, Georgia, on August 17, 1927, to the late Cherrie G. and Spencer Bennett. She moved to Tampa, Florida, at an early age where she was educated in the public school system. She loved spending time with her family and always went to events where she could surround herself with their presence. Some of her mains destinations for visiting relatives included Florida, Georgia and the Greater New York City area. She enjoyed taking time to help prettify the neighborhood females with her beautician skills. Cooking was also a passion of hers; her pineapple upside down cake was quite tasty as well as many of her other specialty dishes. One of her favorite expressions was "What goes around, comes around". She also regularly voiced some other phrases, with one being akin to a passage from the Bible (Galatians 6:7), "... you reap what you sow" and summed it all up to say "Go tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born". She was predeceased by her son, Robert Louis Bennett, as well as her sisters, Mary Ellen Aldridge and Essie Bennett Avila and her brother, Spencer Bennett. She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving sister, Marjorie B. Guest, who resides in Tampa, Florida; nieces and nephews, Dr. Delores Aldridge Essuon, Marjorie Aldridge Holder, Dr. Willie L. Aldridge, Jr., Isaac Guest and Samuel "Cookie" A. Guest; special friend, Joe; and a host of other family and friends who loved her dearly. The visitation will be held on Friday, April 5th, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel Saturday for the service.
