Doris "Kate" Hubbard was born, November 9, 1934, Charlie Cato and Eldora (Spyies) Cowan. She matriculated through the Lake County Public School System in Leesburg, Florida. Doris loved to travel. She was a consummate entertainer and an excellent cook. From a child, Doris was a member of the St. Paul AME Church in Leesburg, Florida, where her late grandmother, Maple Spyies Hall was once the organist.
Doris was an avid supporter of Hood Temple AME Zion Church in Tampa, Florida. She was active as long as her health permitted. Always caring, sharing, and supporting the church and pastors. Doris "Kate" and Walker Lee Gano, Jr., met, fell in love and married. This union produced two beautiful children, daughter, Deborah Olivia, and son, Walker Lee Gano III. Doris later remarried, Charlie Hubbard, and moved to British Guyana South America where she, her husband and her children lived for many years. Doris later became the grandmother to three beautiful grandchildren, Walker Lee Gano IV, Columbus Gano, and Olivia Gano. Life's race well run, work well done, life's crown well won, and now she's at rest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Cato, and Eldora (Spyies) Cowan; son, Walker Lee Gano III; grandchildren, Columbus and Olivia Gano.
Mrs. Hubbard leaves behind her loving family: daughter, Deborah Gano (Tampa, FL.); grandson, Walker Lee Gano IV (North Carolina); great-grand daughter, Walniqua Gano (Tampa, FL.); god-daughter, Renau Daniels (New Jersey); loving brother-in-law, Rev. Randolph Haynes III; and a host of nephews including, James Watts (Debra), Stanley Watts, Lee Andrew Pore (all of Tampa, FL.), and Rawn and Rico Haynes (Orlando, FL); nieces, Antoinette Pore Hudson (Tampa, FL.), Randria Haynes, (Orlando, FL.); grand-nephews, Joey Castillo (Constance), Ross Glover, Alexander Hayes (Tampa, FL.), Ryan Haynes (Orlando, FL.); grand-nieces, Polar Watts, Vodashea Watts, Ninya Glover-King, Ebony Jonae Elston (Greg), Pamela Glover, and Regina Brown (all of Tampa, FL.); a host of loving cousins, Charles Spyies (Orlando, FL.), James Spyies (Gladine) (Georgia), Mary Roundtree-Castelli, and Aubrey Dale Jacobs (Charlie) (all of Leesburg, FL.); and a host of family and friends from Tampa, Orlando, Leesburg, Clearwater, Georgia, Alabama, and Texas; very dear friends, Martha Thompson, Julia White, Joan Jury, and Claressa Lovett.
