A Homegoing Celebration for Ms. Dorothy V. Fleming of Tampa, Florida, who passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2020, will be held on Saturday, January 11th, 2:00 p.m., at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 5001 Cumberland Drive, Pastor R.A. Polk, officiating. The interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gainesville, Florida. Dorothy was born on June 26, 1929, in Gainesville, Florida, to the late Homer Adkins, Sr., and Bernice Fleming Adkins. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and had a great passion for sharing her love for God. She worked for St. Joseph Hospital and retired after 25 years of service. She enjoyed shopping, going to the movies, and spending time with her family. She was cherished as an entrepreneur and chef. Many young ladies adopted her as their 'Ma Dear' because she provided profound wisdom and guidance in life matters. She was also an encourager for ladylike style and refined beauty. She was preceded in death by her step-brother, Louis Williams, Sr., and son, Terry Bowles. Remembering her lovingly with cherished thoughts are: daughter, Cynthia Myers of Tampa, FL; son, Emmitt Bowles (Versie) of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Michael Bowles (Nicole), Jamil Jones, Tanya Bowles, Kyonne Goodman, James, Jasmine and Jackie Robinson; great grandchildren: Xavier Bowles and Jalen Jones; goddaughter, Pamela Bob-West; daughter-in-law, Laura Bowles; friend: Connie Tucker; family friend, Barbara Grete; and a host of other family members and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, January 10th, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
