Mrs. Dorothy Jean Philon fulfilled her purpose here before she transitioned to her new home on Saturday, January 30, 2021. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 13th, 11:00 a.m., Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Ave., with Rev. Prentiss A. Davis, Pastor of Word of God Ministry, Inc. Eulogist. The interment will follow.
Dorothy was born on December 14, 1936 in Cottondale, Florida. To the late James and Gussie Bailey. Dorothy gave her life to Christ at a very young age. She was a faithful servant of God. She was a faithful member of Greater Morning Star Baptist Church/Joy Tabernacle Church for 50+ years. She was a longtime housekeeper as well as a nanny for years. Her favorite thing to do was serving the Lord and fishing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Clay Philon Sir.; daughter, Debra Philon; three brothers, James Bailey, Sam Bailey and Roy Bailey; two sisters, Kate Russ and Earline Tensler. She leaves behind precious memories of her, her daughter, Marguerite Philon-Harris (Eric); two sons, Kenneth Philon (Lisa) and Willie Clay Philon Jr.; 11 grandchildren, Javarius Philon, Jontrey Hunter, Rakim Philon, Khaylin Philon, Jaeqwon Philon, Khapone Philon, Kyawana Seay, Lamont Philon, Teresa Philon, Clareatha Philon and Willie Philon III; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mae Evelyn White of Cottondale, Florida and Mary Jean Martin of Hartford, Connecticut; adopted daughters, Alexis Barrington, Brenda Davis (Rev. Prentiss), Brenda Edwards (Clinton), QuWanita Morgan (Prophet Farnorris); adopted son, Joe Mudula; longtime friends, Mrs. Dorothy Hayes, Mr. Steven Oster (Sam) and Deacon Willie Sweet (Lucille); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, February 12th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the graveside on Saturday for the service. We are following the CDC guidelines.
