A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Earl Jones of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Dr. Hezekiah Corppetts, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Earl Jones, Master Sergeant, U.S. Army, retired passed away in Columbia, SC. He was born in Apalachicola, FL on August 14, 1927to the late Joseph and Adelle Jones. He spent his youth in Tampa, FL in thecommunity called "Luck Lane" and loved his home on Pompano Drive in Hillsborough County in an area called the 'Fish Bowl.' He was a veteran who served for 30 years in the Army during the era of the Korean War, World War II and went to Vietnam three times. MSGT Jones awards include eight Good Conduct Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, Army Occupation, National Defense Service (10), World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and Meritorious Service Medals. Earl Jones dedicated his life to serving God through his participation in numerous church activities while living in Tampa serving as a Deacon, choir member and doing for others outside of the church. He was a beloved husband, father and friend. He was an avid reader, an outdoorsman and nature lover and he enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jake Jones, wife, Mary Blue Jones and daughter, Gwendolyn Jones, and wife Fannie Mae Jones. He leaves to cherish precious memories of him by his daughters Dr. Yvonne Corppetts (Hezekiah) of Elgin, SC, Yvetta Jones Woodbury of Herndon, VA, sister Clydie Mae Harley (Jasper) of Tampa, FL, niece Debra Jones of Tampa, FL, granddaughters Yolanda Archie of Tampa, FL, Brittany Corppetts of Elgin, SC, Angel Young of Atlanta, GA, grandson Shawn Corppetts of Offutt AFB, NE; and a host of other family members and many friends from around the world. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Tuesday for the service.
