Obituary

Homegoing celebration for Mr. Eddie Oscar Simpson of Tampa who passed away at his home on September 20, 2012, will be held on Saturday, September 29th, 12:30 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Ronald Thomas, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Eddie was born in Daytona Beach, Florida on December 22, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. York Simpson and Mrs. Sarah Carley, grandparents, Jim and Mamie Mitchell; uncles, James Thomas Mitchell and William James Mitchell and aunt, Lucille Thomas. Eddie was a retired member of the International Longshoreman's Association, Local 1402, James Harrell president. Although he was limited in activities by various illnesses Eddie pursued his love for the outdoors, as an avid fisherman and gardener. He will be remembered for his generosity to others, quiet demeanor, sense of humor, commitment to family and strong work ethic. He is survived by his sister, Flossie L. Gaines; brothers, John Earl Simmons, Jr., James Simmons, Robert Louis Simmons, Clarence Simmons, all of Tampa and Leroy Simmons of Tallahassee, FL; god-daughter, Jackie Snell of Pensacola, FL; a host of nieces and nephews; cousins, Addie Sailor, Trudie Willis and Maddie Brown; sisters-in-law, Rebecca Simmons, Della Simmons of Tampa, FL and Diana Scott-Simmons of Tallahassee. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home, Friday September 28, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the service.
