Obituary

Homegoing Celebration for Mother Edith Revels affectionately known as "Nannie" who passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015, will be held on Saturday, April 11th, 2:00 p.m. at Cathedral of Faith Church, Inc., 6304 N. 30th Street, Apostle James Howell, Sr. pastor officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. She was born on August 15, 1927 to the late George and Modina Conyers Revels in St. Petersburg, Florida. She was 87 years old. Mother Revels attended the public schools of Pinellas and Hillsborough County, Florida and she was a graduate of George S. Middleton Senior High School in Tampa. She was gainfully employed as a caregiver/housekeeper for Mrs. Elizabeth Griffin on Davis Island for several years. She also worked as a housekeeper for the Howard Johnson Hotel chain where she retired from after more than 20 years of service. She was a very loveable, caring and devoted matriarch to her siblings and a very protective and devoted mother to her daughter, Rosalind. She was a perfect grandmother and auntie to her grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friendly, peaceful and caring neighbor and friend to others. She loved cooking, gardening, fishing, shopping and caring for her favorite furry doggies-Sassy, Kiki and Penny. Mother Revels was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church for approximately 34 years under the leadership of Pastor James H. Howell before transitioning her membership with him to the Cathedral of Faith Church, Inc. She remained a faithful member for 22 more years under Apostle Howell's leadership until her passing. She served faithfully and effectively in the Mother Ministry. She believed in God and expressed it often in her conversations and interactions with others. Mother Revels was preceded in death by her parents, great grandson, Quinton Williams, brothers, Harold, Julius, Warren and Mitchell C. Revels. She leaves to cherish precious and loving memories: a loving and devoted daughter, Rosalind L. Williams Larry; granddaughters, Lorrie A. Williams (James), Audrea A. Allen (Corey), Faith D. Mortimer (Roncel), Kimberly Murray and Terri Earls (Cedric Cradle), grandsons, Thoua Nealy III (Celeste) and Johnathan Nealy; great grandchildren, Amarius L. Allen, Kanisha L. Allen, Shannon L. King, Thoua Nealy IV, Talon E. Nealey, Markira L. Nealey, Nevaeh Y. Mortimer, Nina G. Mortimer, Victoria Nealey, Carlos Norton (Patti Murphy, mother), Elisia Murray, Borthland Murray, Jr., Brianna Murray, Jasmine Earls,Terrell Cradle and Michael Earls; brothers, Franklin D. Revels, Sr. and Alvin L. Revels; sisters, Joyce M. Revels and Gloria Brown; nieces, Nicole R. Taylor, Tonya Coles, Modina Revels, Regina Revels, Juanita Revels, Gail Lee (Eric), Debra Morris (Harry) and Michelle Hadley; nephews, Carl Norton, III, Dorsey Wiley, Harold Brown, Raphael Brown, Franklin Revels,Jr., Bernard Hadley (Reba) and Alvin Hadley (Carolyn); great nieces,Jekiea Best, Mikeara Harris, Jequea Best; great nephews, Rodney T. Johnson and Re'Jon Tim; like a daughter, Brenda Johnson; devoted lifetime friends, Clifton Williams, Sr. and son Clifton Williams, Jr.; devoted friends and neighbors, Bennie B. Taylor & Family, Deborah D. Larry & Family, Katie Allen and Family, Mary Mitchell & Family, Andrew Mathis, Sr., Nancy Sutton & Family, Charles Collins & Family; and a host of other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held on Friday, April 10th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cathedral of Faith Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
