The homegoing celebration for Deacon Edmund Lasing of Tampa Florida, who passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, will be held Saturday December 3rd, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of College Hill, 3838 N. 29th St, Tampa, FL 33610, Rev. S. Evan Burrows, pastor officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Deacon Edmund James Lasing was born on June 4, 1926, in Nashville, GA. He was the only child of the late Robert and Estella Burnette Searcy Lasing. He was honorably discharged from his military duty in the United States Army on September 13, 1946 from the Albertine Army Camp in Baltimore, Maryland. He relocated to Tampa, Florida in August 1947. Deacon Lasing was converted at an early age and was baptized into the fellowship of Jesus Christ at the Bresher Creek Baptist Church in Adel, Georgia. He united in service unto the Lord with First Baptist Church of College Hill, Tampa, Florida in April 1968. He was married to the late, Mrs. Beatrice Nelson Lasing for more than fifty years and was the wonderful father of seven children. He retired from Tampa Electric Company after thirty-five years of employment. His faith and love for God and his church were demonstrated through his support of the different ministries he so diligently worked in. He was an honorary member of the Deacon Board and a member of the Usher Board. He also served with the Finance Ministry, and the Sunday School Association. Deacon Lasing was a former member of the Church Security Team and the Transportation Ministry. He was diligent, faithful and very dedicated in his volunteer duties for the Hot Meal Ministry, where he served daily. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Nelson Lasing; mother, Estella Searcy Lasing; father, Robert Lasing; grandparents, Anderson and Matilda Searcy; daughter-in-law, Maureen Kay Lasing; three aunts and three uncles. Deacon Lasing leaves to cherish his fond memories with his seven children: Min. Dr. Sheryl Lasing Smalls (Levi), Sharrel Lasing Carter (Wayne), Rodney E. Lasing, Bettye Upshaw (Pastor Carnell), Barbara Jolly, James Leavertis Stevens (Patricia) Hollywood, FL and James Leroy Stevens (Martha); grandchildren, Sharla Jenkins (Donald), Anika Bronson (Alvin), Adrian Lasing (Marice), Marcus Smalls (Yolonda), Angelina Harebin (Darren), Asha Smalls, Larry Yeoman (Lauri), Gail Snell, Ruben Yeoman III (Shawryn), Darleanette Parker (Raymond), Sabrina Henry (Robert) Jacksonville, FL, Aneus Stevens (Veronica) Lakeland, FL, Bartholomew Bostic (Leticia), Reginald Stevens, Stephanie Stevens, Vallejo, CA, Tangila Hymes, Marcel Joseph, Union City, CA, Paula Watkins (Elder Dominic) and Antione Stevens (Tineeshia) Dallas, TX; 49 great grandchildren; and 19 great- great grandchildren; first cousins, Emory Searcy Jr. & family, Atlanta GA, Patricia Greathouse & family, College Park, GA, Erma Howard & family Acworth, GA, Rosemary June Hicks & family, Elizabeth, NJ and Kevin Dorsey & family, Los Angeles, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The visitation will be held at the church on Friday, December 2nd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service
