Edward C.
Aikens, Sr.
January 30, 1942 – January 7, 2026
Mr. Edward Carris Aikens, Sr., lived with strength, pride, and dedication to family. Edward was a lifelong Floridian whose hardworking spirit and generous heart left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Edward attended Middleton High School, where he built lifelong friendships and developed a strong work ethic. He attended Allen College on a football scholarship. Edward also proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He became a master electrician, an occupation he took great pride in and excelled in for many years. His skill, leadership, and commitment to honest work eventually led him to become the owner of Aikens Electrical Company, where he served his community with professionalism, reliability, and integrity. His time in the Air Force reflected his discipline, strong sense of purpose, and deep respect for duty, qualities that remained with him long after his service ended.
Edward was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Tim; father, Dexter Aikens; beloved only son, Edward Carris Aikens, Jr.; brothers, Herman Tim, Lewis Aikens, Leroy Aikens, and Charlie Aikens; and sister, Gwendolyn Tim Powell. He leaves to cherish his memory daughter, Fenneica Simmons; siblings, Betty Aikens, Shirley Aikens, Thomas Aikens (Yvonne), and Henry Aikens; grandchildren, Christopher, Diamond, and Hasuni Brown.
He is also survived by his devoted nieces and caregivers, Cicely Powell-Hodge (Leon) of Orlando, FL and Dr. Monique Powell-Davis of Washington, D.C., and nieces, Benita G. Jenkins of Silver Spring, MD, Doris J. Aikens, Sonja Aikens of Columbia, SC, Ranelda Spence, Tonya "Honey" Aikens, Arjelyia "GiGi" Aikens, LaCheryl Aikens- Guzman, Nicole Aikens Gross (Hugh), Ebone Aikens, Emani Aikens, Vivian Aikens Linero of New York City, NY, and Rosa Aikens of Atlanta, GA; nephews, Barry L. Aikens; and cousins, Virgie Nell Miles and family, along with extended relatives, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Edward will also be remembered for his ability to keep family and friends connected—especially through Facebook—where he often shared updates, stayed in touch, and checked in on those he loved. In his own way, he made sure people felt remembered, included, and close, even from a distance. Edward Carris Aikens, Sr. will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
