Obituary

Mrs. Eleanor Louise Mobley Solomon was born on January 22, 1948, in Sanford, FL, to the late Ernest and Freddie Muller Mobley. At an early age, she was baptized and joined First Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. There she played the piano for Sunday School, youth choir, and later the gospel choir. She attended Midway Elementary School in Sanford from 1st-8th grade. After graduating from Crooms High School, she sang in the school choir under the leadership of Mr. E.E. Minot, who was also her piano teacher.

She graduated in June 1965 and furthered her education at Xavier University in New Orleans, LA. She eventually transferred to Hampton Institute (now Hampton University) in Hampton, VA., where she earned her bachelors degree in 1969. She moved to Atlanta, GA, where she taught Music Therapy at the Georgia Retardation Center for special needs students. She married Charles Solomon and had two children: Portia and Christopher Micheal.

In 1979, the family moved to Sanford, FL. She played for two churches: Grant Chapel A.M.E. and First Shiloh M.B. In 1982, the family moved to Tampa, FL, and she continued her teaching career: Gorrie Elementary, Dowdell Middle School, Hillsborough High School, and Mendez Exceptional Center. She also continued as a church musician at St. Paul A.M.E., Mt. Sinai A.M.E., Tyer Temple United Methodist Church, and St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Portia (Albert), son, Christopher Michael; siblings, Carolyn (Adrian), and Marylen (Leon); grandchildren, Michael, Shaniah, Derek, Jasmine, Courtney, Dwight, and Sydney; great-grandchild, Alfred.
