A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Elizabeth Mae Hicks Armstrong affectionally known as (Liz or Lizzie) who passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 will be held Saturday, February 4th, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 4008 E. Cayuga St., Pastor Michael White, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Armstrong was born and raised in Bartow, Georgia on February 7, 1934, to the late John and Eula Hicks. She was baptized at an early age at Salter Grove Baptist Church in Bartow, Georgia. Our mother received her high school diploma, and later married our father the late Roosevelt Armstrong, Jr. and with their union they moved to Tampa, Florida. Lizzie began her career journey at Singleton Shrimp Company and later found her calling in nursing and joined Memorial Hospital, and retired as a central supply clerk in 1989. Lizzie loved to sing, dance, cook, sew and go shopping with her daughters, she also loved watching the spanish channels, and was a comedian in her own way, but most of all she loved reading her bible and talking to the lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, 7 brothers and 1 sister. She leaves to cherish her precious memories with 2 sons; Wilbert Armstrong (Bernell) Tampa, FL and Roosevelt Armstrong (Nona), Lithonia, GA; 4 daughters, Shirley Armstrong, Debbie Armstrong, Cynthia Armstrong of Tampa, FL. and Ida Byrd (Kevin), Newark, DE; 16 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ella Mae Hicks, Wadley, GA and Nicey Hollis, CA; her beloved dog, Chance, A.K.A. Poon Poon; sister-in-law, Cathy Hicks; god-daughter, Renita Battle; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Verdell Johnson, Etha Mae German, Amanda Hicks, Etheleen Hines, Peggy and the late Barbara Johnson; a special thanks to Yvonne Burns, Shawn White, Ethel Hayes, Lisa Means and Linda Dexter. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, February 3rd from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
