Obituary

Homegoing services celebrating the life of Elizabeth A "Big Ma" Kendrick who went home to be with her Heavenly Father on April 23, 2012, will be held on Saturday, April 28th, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at New Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Madison Murray Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mother Kendrick was born on February 2, 1924 to Moses and Carrie Alford. She was the 8th of 10 children. Both her parents have preceded her in death as well as all of her siblings. Also preceding her in death was the father of her seven children; Allen B. Kendrick, her grandson, Randall Harrelson, granddaughter, Denethia Kendrick, nieces, Annette Peeler and Pearl Williams, nephews, Charlie Gilmore, Jr., Bobby Peeler and Robert Peeler. Mother Kendrick worked in the healthcare field for many years starting at Padgett's Nursing Home as a Nurse's Aide, and later at what was known as the Hillsborough County Hospital in the same position. She obtained employment at J.C. Penny's as a Sales Associate in the Children's Department where she stayed until she retired after 13 years. During her later years, she worked as a foster grandparent until her health began to fail. Mother Kendrick's life was about her family, church and never giving up. She also loved to travel. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, Frances Gilmore Chapter #228. She leaves to mourn her passing: 5 daughters, Yvonne H Simmons (Johnnie), Patricia Cannon (Arthur), Gloria Grimsley, Deoborah Parker (Michael), and Cheryl Thomas (Frederick); 2 sons, Edwin A. Kendrick (Gina) and Michael A. Kendrick; 15 grandchildren, Sharon Satterwhite, Yvette Bynum, Joseph L. Heyward, Lavera Robinson (William) Angela Kendrick, Tawanda Cox, Sharman Beal (Vaughn), Tonya Kendrick, Preston Livingston, Emory Walker, Tavius Edwards, Marquist Westbrook, Wesley Parker, Janae Thomas and Andrew Thomas; 38 great grandchildren, 26 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews to numerous to list; 2 devoted god-daughters, Gloria Jefferson and Mary Marshall; devoted friends, Rev. Madison and Sister Mattie Murray and her extended New Greater Friendship Church family; and a host of other relatives and friends. The viewing will be held at New Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, April 27th from 5-8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at 10:45 am on Saturday for the service.
