Obituary

Homegoing Celebration for Ms. Ella Mary Jones of Tampa, Florida who received her angel wings and took flight to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, December 13, 2014, will be held Saturday, December 20th, 2:00 p.m., at Greater Bethany M.B. Church, 5814 58th Street Ct., Rev. Clyde Thompson, pastor officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. She was affectionately known as "Mary" and loved by all who knew her and to those that came to know her during her 83 years. She was a native of Troy, Alabama and graduated from Pike County High School. She later relocated to Tampa, where she was a cook and caterer for over 40 years. She was a member of Greater Bethany M.B. Church, where she served in the culinary ministry; a Keenagaer at St. John Progressive M.B. Church, Rev. Bartholomew Banks, Sr. Pastor; a former pioneer member of Friendly M.B. Church, where she read poems, spoke and sang in the choir; an Eastern Star member and attended the Oaks at Riverview Senior Citizens Center for many years. Ella was preceded in death by her parents, Alex Carlisle and Annie Commer; stepmother, Lois Carlisle; brother, Eddie Calhoun and grandson, Marc Strode. She leaves to cherish her memories with her daughters, Linda, Roberta (Lewis), Pamela (Harold) and Edith (Nathaniel); sons, Alexander (Elizabeth), Walter, Marc and Earl; goddaughter, Nita (David); sisters, Addie Boyd, Barbara Smith, Queen Atherly (Pop), Florence Tucker (Tim) of AL, Elizabeth of Jacksonville, Clara (Salvatore) of NY, Coella Sutton and Myrtle McKinney; brothers, Adolph of Troy, AL, Lee of Chicago, IL, and Bobby of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Alexis, Jada, Marckala, Asia, Octavia, Tiffany, Shawn, Stanleshua, Gabriel, Nathaniel, Valerie, Barbara, Diane, AL, Willie, Johnny, Lil Edith, Freddie, Jesse, Frank, Jim, Harold, Darold and Betty and Levetta; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; devoted friends, Eartherlene Horton and Johnnie and Deloris Stennis; and a host of sorrowing relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, December 19th from 5-8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
