Homegoing services for Mr. Elmore Sims of Tampa, who passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2011, will be held on Saturday August 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Progressive M.B. Church, 2504 Chipco St. with, Rev. Bartholomew Banks, Pastor officiating. Elmore was born on November 16, 1930 in Tampa, Florida. He was a graduate of Middleton High School class of 1949 and he attended Gibbs Jr. College, He was also a musician with the Elmore Sims and Ravens Band. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for GTE for 33 before retiring. He made up his daughters original names and enjoyed people, dancing, traveling, photography, repairing, tailoring, sewing, skating, music, and telling his life's history and wisdom. Elmore was united in marriage to Mrs. Don Jean Sims. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, Elmore A. Sims, Sr., and Rosa Lee Sims; grandparents, George and Wilma Smith. He leaves a devoted friend: Johnetta Goldsmith; children, Gloria V. Sims (Clarence Townes), Delbert Sloan, Y'yony Redd (James) Kasony Sims, Elmore Alfonzo Sims III, Zezony Allen (Leonard), Q'quony Davis (Karl) and Tony Smith; grandchildren, Robert Fisher, Maurice Beckford, Jairus Redd, Jacob Redd, Marquis Robinson, James Redd Jr., Karl Davis Jr., Kennan Davis, Latonya Sims, Latoya Sims, Shaquanisha Sims and Kayla Davis; close friends, Randy Randolph, Laura Fuller, Walter Gibbons, Eddie Hodgins and Karate Mack; Rose Heights Elks of Polk County, Florida; and a host of other great grandchildren, relatives and friends. The viewing will be held on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Aikens Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the Church at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday for the service.
