We are honored to share the life of Emanuel Jones, Sr. He was born on November 16, 1936, in Sanford, FL, and was loved by his parents, Anthony Dubose and Dorothy Reeves Jones Dubose, until they were parted by death. At an early age, his family relocated to Tampa and lived in Hyde Park. Emanuel attended the Hillsborough County School system and graduated from Howard W. Blake High School. He had a desire to become a teacher and give back to his community. In 1964, Emanuel earned his degree in Physical Education, with a minor in Geography at Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL. While at Alabama State University, he was an accomplished athlete in baseball, track, and basketball. That is also where he met, fell in love and married Martha Jenkins. Emanuel and Marthas union grew their family with three 3 children, Emanuel Jones Jr., Staci Jones and Allyson (Jeffrey) Jones Brown; however, the highlight came in the way of grandchildren, Sage and Jacob Brown, Emanuel and Marthas love for each other and their family lasted for 56 years. Emanuel was employed with the Hillsborough County School System for 15 years. He also worked with the City of Tampa, Department of Recreation. Emanuel coached and mentored many young people to be their best in sports. Coach Jones also held the highest batting average in baseball for the City of Tampa. He retired from Anheuser-Busch Brewery and Delta Airlines. Emanuel accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion AME Church where he served on the Jr. Usher Board. His love for Christ continued into his adult and senior years with his last commission being at First Baptist Church of Progress Village, where he held the position in the ministry of Connect Now! In that ministry, he shared the love of Christ by welcoming new members and visitors. Many will miss and cherish the time spent with him. To name a few family members: wife, Martha Jones; son, Emanuel Jones Jr.; daughters, Staci Jones, Allyson (Jeffrey) Brown of Atlanta, GA.; grandchildren, Sage and Jacob Brown of Atlanta, GA.; sister-in-law, Edna (Earl) Grooms, of Red Level, AL; brothers-in-law, John Jenkins Jr. of Birmingham AL, Phillip Jenkins of Birmingham, AL and Aubery Jenkins of Atlanta, GA.; 1st cousins, Wesley (Stephanie) Williams of Upper Marlboro, MD, Earl Williams, Lawrence Williams and Jennett Campbell of Sanford, FL; goddaughter, Barbara (Roosevelt) Jones, godson Herbert Newton of St Lewis, MO; special friends, Harvest Mitchell of Florence, AL, Dr. Maxwell Parker of Gainesville, FL, Robert Parker Jr., Willie Williams, Sr., Carl and Jewel Warren, and Eileen Wilford of Tampa, FL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
