Obituary

Mrs. Emma Allison Hendrix Homegoing services for Mrs. Emma Allison Hendrix of, 3406 33rd Avenue, who departed this life on Sunday, December 28, 2008, will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 11 am at Northeast United Methodist Church, 6400 N. 15th Street, Dr. Florence L. Howell, PastorEulogist, with Rev. B. Aron Wilds, officiating. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Emma Bell Allison was born September 22, 1925 to the union of Henrietta and John Allison. She joined two sisters, Johnnie Mae and Doris in the Allison household. Emma was reared in Tampa and graduated from Middleton High School. She attended and graduated from FAMC. Emma began a teaching career in Hillsborough County that spanded over 30 years. She married Willie L. Hendrix, a union to which two sons were born, John and Willie. Emma's service to God early on was at Greater Bethel M.B. Church, later North Street Church and finally as a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Her civic involvement was an important part of her life. She was a member of the Las Damas Club, East Tampa Civic Association, Retired FAMC Alumni Association, past member of Eastern Travelers Club and a member of the NFL's Youth Education Town Advisory Board for the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation. Emma was preceded in death by her mother and father; her son Willie; a sister, Johnnie Mae; a nephew, Robert Thomas; mother-in-law, Ophelia Hendrix; and an uncle, Anthony Harris. She leaves to hold precious memories of her life, a loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Willie, who she affectionately called "Sonny"; a son, John (Shirley); grandchildren, Charnetta Davis, Alison Whitehead (Charlie), Arika Sherman and Naila Frye; a sister, Doris Thomas; an aunt, Rutha Mae Harris; great grandchildren, Zoya Whitehead and Christian Monton ; nieces and nephews, Rita Joyce, Cheryl (Andrew), Rosalyn (Eddie), Sharman, Gregory, Jeneil, Duane (Tia), and Gail Green of Tallahassee, FL; daughters-in-law, Terry Hendrix and Helena Frye; cousins, Ethel Harris, Barbara and Willie Mitchell, Brenda and Leroy Twiggs, Margaret Guzman and Eddie Woodie; god daughter, Shamel Gainous; god son, Rudy Hill; god sister, Ellastine Monroe; special friends, Laura Fuller (Fred), Ernestine Ponder (Johnnie), Barbara Robinson of Jacksonville, FL; and a host of other family members and friends. The remains will repose at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 pm. The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. The funeral cortege will arrange from 3406 33rd Avenue.
