Homegoing services for Mrs. Ernestine Hicks, affectionately known as "Nana and Stine" of Tampa who passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 will be held Saturday November 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist. Church of College Hill 3838 N 29th Street, Rev. Evan Burrows, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Ernestine Hicks was born May 6, 1937 in Miami- Dade County, FL to Linnie and Samuel Burkes, Sr. She relocated in Tampa at a early age and attended schools in Hillsborough County. She was a graduate of Middleton Sr. High school class of 1955. She was a member of First Baptist Church of College Hill, under the leadership of the late Rev. Abe Brown, current pastor Dr. Evan Burrows. She was a member of Bay City Temple 158, where she served as a daughter ruler for 7 years. She also was a member of Emma V. Kelly Council, George Edgecomb Company X and Florida State Association, where she held several positions in all auxiliaries. She was preceded in death by her mother, Linnie Burkes; father, Samuel Burkes, Sr.; son, Larry E. Lee, Sr. brothers; Nathaniel Lawrence and Willie Washington. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Brenda Hicks; sons, Tony Washington,(Annette), Carl Washington (Carolyn), Jeffery Hicks (Erma), Darryl Hicks, Michael Hicks ( Jacqueline); grandchildren, Delores Bell (Ronald), Cheria Washington, Tony Washington, Jr., Chaketa Washington, Carl Washington, Jr., Shameka Washington, Tameka Washington, Jeffery Hicks, Jr., Darryl Hicks, Jr., Da' maria Hicks, Tierra Hicks, Michael Hicks, Jr., Larry Lee, Jr., Demarcus Lee, Joy Stanley; 1 sister, Elaine Gilmore; 2 brothers, Samuel Burkes, Jr. (Daria) and Ronald Burkes ( Carlita) of Dallas Texas; 11 great grand and 1 great great grandson; special friends, Joyce McNeal, Diane Jones, and Hazel Gooden; goddaughter Patricia Pitt; a host of nieces and nephews and cousins and friends and The Elks Lodge and Temple family. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home from 5 to 8 pm Friday. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 pm. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
