Obituary

Essie Mae Griffith was born on February 23, 1922 to Lucius Murray and Rosa Sparrow in Funston, Georgia as Essie Mae Murray. She was married to the late Emory Griffith of Pavo, Georgia, a World War II Army Veteran. She was the eldest of three siblings: the late Mozella Wiggins, and the late Willie James Wilson. She moved to Tampa, Florida in 1947. She joined the New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and was loved and admired as a faithful prayer warrior. In the closing of her journey, she went to be with the Lord on the morning of February 20, 2021.

She was the mother of seven children: the late Pansy O. Griffith, the late Emory James Griffith, the late Daniel Griffith. She is survived by her four children, Nelson Griffith, Gregory (Miriam) Griffith, Linda I. Baker and Ruby F. A. Baker.

She is survived by an amazing host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren extending six generations throughout Florida, Georgia, and Washington, D.C.

She is also survived by her only nephew Willie James (Helen) Wiggins, and two grand nephews, Keith and Kevin (Carla) Wiggins of Washington, D.C. She is also survived by her grand nieces and nephews of the Lammons family of Barwick, Georgia.

She is further survived by her paternal cousins, Frances Watts, and family.
