Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Essie Rene Jordan, 1803 21st Avenue who passed away January 1, 2012 will be held Saturday, January 7th, at 11:00am at St. John Progressive M.B. Church, 2504 E. Chipco Avenue, Tampa, Florida, Reverend Dr., Bartholomew Banks, Sr., Pastor with Rev. Albert Gallmon, Jr., Pastor of Peace Progressive M.B. Church, Officiating. Interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Essie Rene Jordan was born in Headland, Alabama on March 25, 1941 to the late Howard Jordan and Ollie Lee Holley-Jordan (Waters). She moved to Tampa, FL as a child and attended Hillsborough County Public Schools. She graduated from Middleton Senior High School, class of 1959. She also graduated from USF with a BA in Early Childhood Education. Several years ago she retired as a Teacher and Human Relations Specialist after 34 years of service with the Hillsborough County School System. She was a member of Peace Progressive M.B. Church. She was also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Beta Sigma Zeta Chapter and past member of The Charmette's, Inc. She was preceded in death by stepfather: Reverend Alto Waters; mother, Ollie Lee Waters; father, Howard Jordan; brother, Howard Jordan, Jr., and sister, Berline Jordan Sangster. She leaves a loving family to cherish her fond memories: daughter, Dana Mackey and husband Marvin Mackey; grandchildren, Devin Mackey, Terrence Mackey, Marviana Mackey; sister, Snow Ann Fluellen (Dothan, AL); sister-in-law: Jeroline Jordan; uncle: Roy Lee Holley (Saginaw, MI); aunt: Bessie Baxter and husband Herman Baxter (Slocumb, AL); nephew, James Fluellen; goddaughter, Theolonda Smith; godbrother, Kenneth Washington; special friends, Marva Faulkner, Ann Sullivan, Wayne Allen, Alma Hicks, Sheryl Washington, Sheria Baker, Dr. Elaine W. Lee, Addie Singfeld and Linda Price; special cousins, Billy Christmas and wife, Jewel Christmas, Yvonne Holley Newson and a host of other caring cousins, relatives and friends. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church for the service on Saturday.
