Mother Estella Vinson, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 1, 2024, in Tampa, FL. Born on October 15, 1918, in Oakfield, GA to the late Perry and Fannie James. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Vinson, Jr.; father, Perry James; mother, Fannie James; son, John Holley, Sr.; grandchildren, Larry Nance, William Allen and Michael Williams. Mother Vinson's journey through life was marked by kindness, service, and an unwavering spirit that inspired all who knew her. In her 105 years, Mother Estella cultivated a family legacy that spans five generations. She was wedded to Williams Vinson in 1937 and to this union had six children. She was the matriarchal figure for her loving children: Doris Saddler, Willie Mae Williams, William Vinson (Jeannette), Edward Vinson (Gail), Darrell Vinson, and Kimberly Henderson. Her brother, Rev. Colonel Leroy James (Mary) of Albany, and goddaughter, Lisa Guydon of Atlanta, also held special places in her heart. Estella's grandchildren, Carolyn Nance, Vanoy Nance, Sharon Nance, Terrell Williams, Stephen Williams, Jimmie Williams, Rosalinde Aikens (Teryl), William Vinson, Debra Kelley (Pastor Earl), Tori Davenport, Candice Ealy, Nitaka Walker, Darnell Nash, Latoya Coleman (Titus), and Kevin Vinson, will forever cherish the wisdom and warmth she imparted. Her special cousin, Geneva Moore, along with five generations of great grands a host of grand nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, mourn the loss of such a remarkable soul. Mother Estella's professional life was characterized by dedication and hard work. For 25 years, she served as a custodian at the University of South Florida, where she not only maintained the facilities but also the spirits of those around her with her infectious smile and encouraging words. She extended her nurturing nature to the children of Lavoy Exceptional Center as a Foster Grandparent for 30 years and safeguarded the young ones of Hillsborough County as a Crossing Guard for 5 years. Her commitment to service was further evidenced by her involvement with The Wee Bankers Social Club and the Eastern Star Organization. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Mother Vinson will remember her as the epitome of love and kindness. She was a woman whose faith-filled outlook on life was evident in her everyday actions and interactions. Estella's legacy is not only in the family she raised or the work she did but also in the countless lives she touched through her benevolence and her unwavering belief in the goodness of people. Today, as we reflect on the life of Mother Estella Vinson, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with grace. Her light, though no longer present in this world, continues to shine brightly in the hearts of those she loved. Mother Vinson's story is one of love, service, and faith—a trinity of virtues that will continue to guide and inspire generations to come. As we bid farewell to Mother Estella Vinson, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time we were privileged to share with her. Her memory will be eternally cherished, and her spirit will forever be a guiding star for her beloved family and friends. Mrs. Vinson's journey on earth has concluded, but the echoes of her loving kindness will resonate for eternity.
