A Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Ethel Mitchell Chester 'Babymae' of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2020, 11:00 a.m., at Tillman Funeral Home Chapel, 4006 Crawfordville Rd., Tallahassee, Florida, 32305. The interment will follow at St. Phillip AME Church Cemetery, 6200 Centerville Rd., Tallahassee, Florida 32309. Ethel was born October 24, 1944 in Tallahassee, Florida. She was baptized at an early age at St. Phillip AME Church in Tallahassee, FL. Ethel continued her Christian journey in Tampa and became a devoted member of St. Luke AME Church where she served faithfully in several capacities, including Sunday school teacher for many years. Ethel was civic-minded and supported several community-based and charitable organizations. She was a long-time member of the Red Hatters Social Club, a lady's group that is known for wearing elaborate hats. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommie and Henrietta (Smith) Mitchell and sister, Hallie Mitchell. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving and devoted husband, Robert L. Chester; sisters, Mary Mitchell and Runnette M. James, both of Tallahassee, FL and Annette (Will) Smith, Dayton, OH; nieces and nephews who were like her children, Sherron Wester, Dayton, OH, Denise Atkinson and Georgetta Bennett both of Tallahassee, FL., Mitchell (Connie) McPherson, Pikesville, MD, Tommie (Lisa) Bennett, Manassas, VA, Freddie (Gwendolyn) Harris, Tallahassee, FL; sisters-in-law, Shirley Thomas, Barbara (Darryl) Smith and Dorothy Franklin, all of Tampa, FL and Delphine (Jack) Motley, Maryland; brothers-in-Law, Willie (Betty) Chester and Ernest (Karen) Chester, both of Tampa, FL; and a host of other family members and friends. A Memorial Service will be held in Tampa, Florida at Aikens Funeral Home at a later date.
