Eugene (Gene) Miller Jr., son of the late Eugene Miller Sr. and Catherine Miller, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 22, 2009 while a patient at Melech Life Path Hospice 11125 52nd St. Temple Terrace FL 33617. Services will be held Saturday March 28 at 2PM at the Exciting Central Tampa Baptist Church 2923 N. Tampa Street Tampa, FL 33602, with Pastor Jeffrey Singletary, officiating and Pastor Debra Lewis of New Jersey assisting. Gene was born June 8, 1929 in Pleasantville, NJ and was a resident of Tampa FL for the past 24 years. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church for over 40 years while he resided in Pleasantville NJ where he was Chairman of the trustee board and sang in the choir and male chorus. He served in the U.S. Army and after returning to civilian life, he was an officer on the Pleasantville Police department and self employed as an Air Conditioning and Small Appliance Repairman until the age of 56. After moving to Tampa he was head of maintenance at the Three Lakes community, where he worked until he retired at the age of 62. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Virginia, his sons Gerald Murphy, James (Anita) Murphy, Anthony (Barbara) Miller and Eugene (Rebecca) Miller, daughters, Shelby (Elton) Lassiter, Deborah Bozant, Ginger Miller and Shawn (Mark) Lewis, 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, surviving siblings Clarence (Catherine) Miller, Edward (Shirley) Miller and Ethel Derry and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Melech Life Path Hospice or the American Cancer Society. The remains will repose at Aikens Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. The family will receive friends from 4:30-5:30 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church at 1:45 p.m. for the service.
