Obituary

A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Eugene Murphy of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021 will be held on Saturday, June 5th, 4:00 p.m. at Peace Progressive Community Church, 2628 E. Lake Ave., Pastor Timothy Kemp, officiating. The interment will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Eugene Murphy, affectionately known as 'Unc', was born on August 13, 1938, in Camilla, Georgia to the late Willie Murphy and Bessie Murphy Spotford. Eugene transitioned from life to eternal glory on May 29, 2021, at the Bayshore Pointe Nursing and Rehab Center. He was educated in the public school system of Hillsborough County and began his work career at Morrisons Cafeteria as a dishwasher. Through time and perseverance, he was promoted to Chef in which he lived out his passion for cooking. He served as Deacon Emeritus at Peace Progressive Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Timothy J. Kemp, where he diligently dedicated his time to feed the community breakfast and holiday meals. As a devout believer, Eugene enjoyed connecting with his fellow brothers in Christ in effort to build the kingdom. He also served in the choir and enjoyed leading devotion with his fellow deacons. Eugene Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Murphy and Bessie Murphy Spotford; siblings, Corine Murphy, Eleanor Ross, Sol Murphy and Betty Jean Murphy; niece, Delicia Polite; nephew, Larry Murphy. He leaves to cherish his precious memories with his sisters, Bessie Mae Murphy, Gloria Brandon (Otis Brandon), Amanda Murphy, Blanche Spotford Ryan (Edward Ryan) and Mable Clayton (sister-in-law); brothers, James Spotford Sr. and Walter Spotford III (Queen Spotford); nephews, Harold Murphy, Philip Murphy, Joseph Murphy, Calvin Murphy, Jeffrey Morris, Herman Morris, James Spotford and Jamal Spotford; nieces, Janet Davis (Marvin Davis), Janice Lafond, Felicia Lee, Donna Ashby (Derrick Ashby), Kathy Davis (Wilbur Davis), Betty Jean Murphy, Debra Lewis, Amy Lewis, Carla Murphy, Naomi Morris, Angela Ross and Erica Riley (Aaron Riley); a host of great-nieces and nephews in both Florida and Georgia; close friends, Ms. Ruth and family, Howard, Mr. Willie Cross, Brother Ralph Joyner, Charles, and Peace Progressive Community Church Family.

The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, June 4th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
