Obituary

Homegoing celebration for Mrs. Evelyn Margaret Alexander Mifflin who passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013, will be held Saturday, April 6th at 11:00 a.m., St. John Progressive MB Church, 2504 E. Chipco Street, Tampa, with Rev. Dr. Bartholomew Banks pastor, officiating. On the 5th day of February ~ in the year 1943 ~ the Lord bestowed unto the late Katie Bell Graham (Granny) and James Alexander, Sr., a wonderful blessing by the name of Evelyn Margaret. Evelyn grew to become a lovely and accomplished young lady who accepted Christ at an early age. She excelled academically and graduated from Tampa's Blake High School in 1960, followed by further studies at Tuskegee Institute. Evelyn married her soul matea"Harold William Mifflin, Sr. in 1964 in Springfield, Massachusetts, where they resided for 10 years. They enjoyed a wonderful life together and from this union, two wonderful blessings occurreda"their son and daughter, Harold, Jr. and Lisa Anne. Harold, Sr. later succumbed to death on May 21, 1972. Evelyn relocated to Tampa in 1974 where she dedicated her focus on raising her children. She was employed at the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company for 25 yearsa"8 years in Springfield and 17 at the Tampa locale. Over the years, Evelyn persevered physical and personal challengesa"the gospel hymn, "I Won't Complain," is illustrative of the life she lived. She never ceased to exhibit tenacity and an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior! Evelyn was a member of St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully served in the Nursing Home and Keenager Ministries. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers Jerome Alexander, James Alexander and Arthur Alexander; nephew, John H. Williams, Jr. She is survived by her son, Harold William Mifflin, Jr.; daughter, Lisa Anne Mifflin; sister, Frances Williams; brothers, Rudolph Alexander (Martha); Robert Alexander (Marquita); nieces, Gloria Pendleton (Earl); Patrice Ficklin (John); Aja Coleman (Melvin); Tonderleia Alexander; Diane Lowe; Judy Alexander; Pamela Cook; Andrea Cook, Belinda Williams and Michelle Cook; nephews, Rudolph Alexander, Jr.; David Alexander (Althea); William Alexander; cousins, Mary Bates; Nancy Fluker (Larry); Christopher Bates; Michael Bates (Marva), David Bates (Joyce); sisters-in-law, Gayle Carraway and Olavene Alexander; and a host of other relatives and friends of various locales. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to all of the persons who played a role in Evelyn's carea"namely, her sister-in-law, Gayle Carraway and her niece, Belinda Williams, who served as dedicated attendants. In addition, the nurses at Palm Terrace and Belvedere Commons Assistant Living Facilities demonstrated great compassion as they cared for her every need. May God Bless you all! The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church for the service in Saturday.
