Evelyn was born on July 10, 1925, to James and Mayola Thompson. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, and spending time with family. She was a devoted member of First Baptist of College Hill for eighty-seven years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James O. Brookins, Sr.; son, Ronald T. Brookins; her parents, James and Mayola Thompson; brother, Joseph Thompson; sisters, Vernell Williams, Ora Lee Brown, Bernice Wilson, Doris Batchelor, Blanche Thompson, Joyce Semper, Gwendolyn Lindo, Catherine Thompson.

She leaves to cherish precious memories with her children, Barbara Hills, Carol F. Ash, Dr. James O. Brookins, Jr. (Sandra), Donald J. Brookins, and Aristotle Brookins, Sr. (Cherika); grandchildren,Darryl W. Hills (Sylvia), Marlon O. Hills (Angela), James O. Brookins III, Aristotle II (Resheda), Arik Brookins, Joshua Brookins, Autreyel Brookins, and Lance Thompson; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Hills, Marlon Hills, Jr., and Aristotle Brookins III; a host of nieces and nephews; and goddaughter, Richardeen Akbar.
