Frances M
Fears Thomas
March 11, 1926 – November 18, 2015
Our mother, Frances Mitchell Fears-Thomas was born on March 3, 1926 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. God called her home the morning of Tuesday, November 17, 2015 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was affectionately known as "moms" to her children and many others. During her illness, she was patient, courteous and thankful to any and all acts of kindness, small or large. She was a devoted member of the St. Matthew Catholic Church, Brooklyn, N.Y., where she also chose to educate her children. She was educated in the state of South Carolina school system. She graduated from Antioch College as one of the first, physician assistant's in the country in June of 1975. She went on to serve many patients and spread love and kindness to all she came in contact with. In addition, she was employed at methadone clinics for several years. At methadone clinics, "moms" made a positive impact on all the clients she served. Her love for the community and people were the driving force that kept her working for numerous methadone clinics. Later in life, she was employed with the sanitation department and the New York City Department of Corrections. Upon retirement, she moved to Tampa, Florida with her husband, the late John Thomas. She was also preceded in death by sons, Charles Olu Fears and Earnest Anthony Fears, Jr. A loving mother, full of knowledge, wisdom and arms ready to take you in, leaves to cherish these memories with: her children, Roger Leo Fears (Patricia), Michael Christopher Fears, Sharon Elizabeth Fears (Tyrone), Dr. Jeffery Dennis Fears (Lisa) and Stacey Zachary Fears-Williams (Robert); eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, Selena Fears, and Devon Cook who she mothered and took under her wings of protection. Mom was especially fond of the Short family; and also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
