A Homegoing Celebration for Franchesta Price of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020 will be held Saturday, September 19th, 10:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Rev. Michael Neely, officiating. The interment will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Fran as she is known by family and friends is survived by her son, Kendall,daughter, Aleishaanddaughter-in-law, Tracey; three grandchildren; Julion Price,Kennedi Price and Armand Chalk; two brothers, Louches J.H. Powell, Jr. (Johnny) and Benjamin (Benji). Franchesta, was born to Ruth and Louches J.H. Powell (Henry) was born May 12, 1947 in Paterson, New Jersey. Her elementary and high school years were spent in Brooklyn, New York. During her early years Fran was a member of Calvary African Methodist Episcopal Church (Brooklyn, New York). After graduating from Erasmus Hall High School, she attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (F.A.M.U.) graduating with a degree in Elementary Education.
She began her professional career teaching in Alexandria, Virginia. Fran eventually relocated to Tampa, Florida and continued her career as an elementary educator until her retirement. Franchesta and Sargent Lenard Price were married in Calvary A.M.E. Church, from this union their first child was born Kendall. As a single parent Fran adopted Aleisha, this little girl brought great joy to Fran, her siblings and extended family. Continuing her walk with Christ, Fran joined The First Baptist Church of Progress Village Consistent with her outgoing and friendly manner Fran was member of the Tampa Bay Red Hat Sistah's.
Fran is predeceased by her mother and father and younger sister Juanita Anderson. Fran will be missed by family, friends, former schoolmates, the Herkimer Street crew, and the Calvary and Progress Village families.
The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, September 18th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel for the service.
