Obituary

It was a joyful day on February 5, 1973, when Jean Thomas and Frank James, Sr. welcomed their son, Frank "Mervyn" James, Jr., into the world. They may not have known then, but the name 'Frank'—symbolizing freedom and openness—would truly define the man he would become.

Frank was loved for his fun-loving spirit, great sense of humor, and the way he truly enjoyed life. Frank, also known to his family as "Mervyn" was raised in Brooklyn, New York, in a vibrant three-story family building filled with laughter, love, and the constant presence of his mother, brother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. When Frank wasn't busy sneaking around in a game of hide-and-seek with his cousins, he was proudly playing the role of protective big brother to little Dwayne.

He attended George Westinghouse Career and Technical Education High School, where he excelled academically, especially in the field of mathematics, and had a great passion for drawing. He was not only intelligent, ambitious, artistic and charming-but a ladies' man. Thus, earning him the nickname of "Loveman". His creativity led him into the world of music, where he found a passion to DJ. With a talent for playing music and a magnetic personality, he became known as DJ Loveman, a name that would follow him throughout his early years.

Frank's charisma eventually caught the attention of a young lady named Lashawn Comrie, with whom he wed and built a loving family. Together, they raised four beautiful children, Tremaine, Tanasia, Tatiana and Tre'Shawn. Understanding the importance of providing for his family, Frank began a career as an electrician through Local Union 164, with the help of his godfather-Uncle Winston. He worked hard and with pride, always putting the needs of his loved ones first. Family meant everything to Frank. No matter what life threw his way, he made it a priority to create joyful memories.

He liked traveling, liming, and laughing to the extent that he would take a serious matter and find the funny side of it. Even in challenging times, Frank made sure his family stayed together and felt loved. As life moved into its next chapter, Frank faced several personal trials, including health struggles and the profound loss of his mother. These experiences took a toll on him and ultimately led to the closure of his first chapter in life.

As his children grew into their own lives and families, Frank sought a fresh start. He found a sense of renewal in Tampa, Florida, where he was lovingly welcomed by his cousins. There, he rediscovered the joy of living and eventually met the woman who would become his second wife, Sashagay Monroe. Their love brought new light into his life, and Frank was overjoyed to share his happiness with everyone. He was happy to introduce her as "my wife" radiating gratitude and excitement for this new chapter.

On Saturday, May 31st, 2025, God called Frank home. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Frank's spirit lives on—in the laughter he shared and the love he gave. We are going to miss your phone calls: "Hey cuz let me borrow some money, I'll pay you right back." May his spirit remain with us, guiding us forward with the love and light he brought to our lives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Louvina Thomas; mother, Jean Thomas; father, Frank James, Sr., cousins, Shawn Antoine, Gail Smith and Terrance Jackman, Jr., uncles, Earnest Thomas and Hugh Smith; aunts, Lucille Thomas Bonald and Monica Smith.
