Homegoing Memorial service for Atty. Frank Sylvester Stewart of Tampa, who passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014, will be held on Saturday, March 29th, 1:00 p.m. at Allen Temple AME Church, 2101 N. Lowe St., Rev. Dr. David W. Green, Sr., pastor officiating. Frank Sylvester Stewart was born February 12, 1939 in Tampa, Florida to the late Garland V. and Beatrice Stewart. Frank was a graduate of Middleton Senior High School, class of 1957 and Bethune Cookman College, class of 1962. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army serving from 1963 to 1965. Frank taught math at N.B. Young Junior High School, 1965 to 1970. He attended North Carolina Central University in 1973 obtaining a Jurist Doctorate, Editor and Chief of the Law Journal and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1975. Frank practiced law with his brother, Delano Stewart from 1975 to 1976. He then joined the Hillsborough County, Assistant State Attorney's Office from 1976 to 1981. Frank opened his private practice in 1981, where he served the community faithfully until 2007. At the time of his passing he was practicing in the law office of Atty. Nathaniel Tindall. Frank was a longtime active member of Allen Temple AME Church, Omega Psi Phi fraternity, American Legion and the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter of the National Bar Association. Frank was a teacher and mentor to countless members of the community. He always had a helping hand to provide for anyone, no matter the time of day; his porch light was never off and his garage door was never closed. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, watching sports and listening to music. He leaves to cherish loving and fond memories with his loving and devoted wife, Carol Stewart; children, Javan Ferguson (Milicent); Virga Stewart mother of Jeffery Stewart (Melissa), Stephen Stewart (Dana) and Kendra Stewart, (Damuel) and adoptive sons, Emanuel Burch and Samuel Brown; grandchildren, Lauriel Stewart, Alessia Stewart, Sydney Ferguson, Warren Stewart, Jalen Ferguson, Taylor Stewart, Devin Stewart and Danica Stewart; brother, Atty. Delano S. Stewart; sister-in-law, Atty. Carolyn Stewart; brothers-in-law, Herbert Smith (Lizzie), Harold Smith and Henry Smith (Pamela); loving goddaughter, Crystal Hargrett; nieces, Delicia Stewart, Deloria Nelson (King), India Young (Roy), Rebecca Andrews (Mike), Venita Stewart (Chris), Floretta Spain (Kenneth), Delsha Stewart, Dr. Felicia Jordan (Perry), Tia Young (Victor), Alicia Smith, Carla White (Tyvan) and Xylina Cooper (Keith); nephews, Robert Austin (Pat), Herbert Smith, Jr., Terry Cole and James Hargrett III (Toyin); cousins, Dr. Edward Hills (Noralyn), Thomas Hills, Rev. Beverly Lane (Curtis), Tony Daniels (Malik), James Stewart (Frances), Jan Steele (Roy), Justin Stewart (Dulche), Sean Steele, Deryl McCray and Monica McCray; special friends, Ann McClinton, adoptive mom, John and Lois Daniels, Marion Reeves, Don Chappelle Williams, Wallace McDonald, Robert Nelson, Atty. Nathaniel Tindall, James and Berylnn Hargrett, State Senator, Atty. Arthenia Joyner, Rev. John Anderson, Judge and Mrs. Thomas Stringer, Judge Perry Little, John and Joyce Austin, Atty. The friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
