Ramsey was born to the late Leon Knowles and Miriam Sweeting on November 25, 1928 in West Palm Beach, FL. She later moved to Tampa, FL, where she attended Don Thompson/Middleton High School. Mrs. Ramsey started her career at the Drew Field TB Hospital in Tampa, FL, then the Lily White Hospital also in Tampa. Then she worked at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ, she relocated to East Orange, NJ, then to Vallejo, CA, later returning to Tampa, FL, where she retired from Tampa General Hospital after a rewarding career in the nursing field. Mrs. Ramsey will be remembered for the love she possessed for people. She always had a kind word to say and a wonderful smile to share. She had many friends and was an active member of the Eastern Stars, as well as a member of Kyles Temple AME Zion Church in Vallejo, CA, where she served on the Usher Board. Later after returning to Tampa, FL, she became a member of Bethel AME Church. She was a wonderful mother. It takes a mother's love to make a house a home. It takes a mother's patience to bring a child up right, and she possessed those qualities. She loved to cook and entertain in her home. She was a people's person. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Knowles and Miriam Sweeting Knowles; husband, James Ramsey; brother, Leon Knowles, Jr.; sister, Rosabell Knowles; granddaughter, Kimberly Carter; and grandson, Willie Carter III.
