Geraldine Jerita
Chastain
June 25, 1932 – August 28, 2022
Geraldine, affectionately nicknamed "Gerry", was born on June 25, 1932; the only child to parents James Blair and Cora Chastain. She was raised by her aunt Louise Williams since birth. Geraldine was a loving mother of six children and was always giving her time to others.
She retired from the City of Tampa, Sanitation Department where she served as a supervisor. She enjoyed volunteering with the Girl Scouts, solving word puzzles, and going on shopping sprees with her daughters. Socially, she was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Amicae and the Brown Buddies. She was a former member of Greater Mt. Carmel AME church and a faithful member of Mt. Olive AME church, where she served as a Stewardess, a member of the Young Johnson Usher Board, president of the MOST, and a member of the Food Bank Ministry. She loved the AME church and singing AME hymns.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Blair and Cora Chastain; aunt, Louise Williams; brother, John Blair; devoted son-in-law, Eugene McRae; granddaughter, Monique Coy; and great-granddaughter, Breanna Roberts.
She leaves precious memories with her children, Sylvia McRae, Debrah Coy, Mark Council, Donna Burton (Joseph), Marvin Hardy, and Marena Hardy; grandchildren, Pamela Coy, Tameka Wilson, Jamilya McAllister (Charlie), Kevin Coy, Monica Coy, Christopher McRae, Ashley Witherspoon (Nesha), Chaunte Lockhart, and Irvin Singletary, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Eldridge Reed III, Eddrick Reed, Malik Wells, Mahogany Coy, Kristen Hadley, SR Roberts IV, Zharia Wilson, Kevin Coy, Jr., Shamariah Priester, Dominick Roberts, Jamil Mayo, and Greysen Burton; cousins, Ossie Lee Hendricks, Darrell Moody, The Staley Family, and many others; eleven great-great-grandchildren; and other sorrowing relatives and friends.
