Geraldine Marilea
Lewis
March 19, 1934 – May 24, 2025
Geraldine "Geri" Lewis, the only child of Johnny Smith and Geneva Richard, was born March 19, 1934, in Alachua, FL. Geraldine was raised by her beloved grandmother Ethel in Clearwater, FL, until she was 12, when she moved to New Jersey to live with her mother. She attended The Bordentown School, a boarding school in Bordentown, NJ. After graduating from high school, she became a wife and a stay-at-home mother for several years. When she decided to join the workforce she continued her education at Katherine Gibbs School in New Jersey. Upon graduation, she worked as an accounting clerk at Ortho Diagnostics and later at BASF. Her first marriage to Charles Young produced three children: Charles, Edwin, and Caryn. Later, she married her old childhood friend Nathaniel "Buddy" Lewis, and through this union, she was blessed with five children: Natalie, Julia, Derrick, Roselyn, and Nathaniel from his previous marriage, and we became a blended family. Natasha was born a few years later and rounded out our crew.
Geraldine loved being a wife and mother and often bragged about having such a large family. She loved spending time with the kids. She loved cooking and was a voracious reader. Geraldine also loved the Lord, and after accepting Christ and getting baptized, she served alongside her husband in the Newark Pioneer Pathfinder club and the Community Services for many years. Geraldine was a reluctant disciple and fussed the whole time, but she stood in the background keeping things going and doing the work. She never held an office, but was Buddy's right-hand in serving in the church for 40 years. She retired in 2018 to Brandon, FL, where she and Buddy became members of Mt. Calvary SDA Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She leaves precious memories with her children: Charles, Edwin, Caryn (Maria), Natasha, Natalie (Thomas), Derrick, Roselyn, and Nathaniel; two sisters-in-law, Alberta and Elizabeth. Grandchildren; Crystal, Charles, Azariah, Dajon, Jihan, Derrick, Nathaniel II, Lauren, Victoria, Nicolas, Kyle, Semone, Marangelis, Vanessa and Johanna; fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of loving friends and family.
