Geraldine Gainer
Mclean
June 19, 1931 – February 6, 2021
Geraldine Tanner McLean began life in Panama City, Florida on June 19,1931, the third child of Alcoe Gainer and Willie Mae Tanner Gainer. A year later, the family moved to Mariana, Florida and lived with her Great grandmother, Laura Tanner. After several years living in Mariana, and now with a younger brother William, the family returned to Panama City.
A 1949 graduate of Rosenwald High School, Geri began the next chapter of her educational journey, Florida A & M University. She entered college as a voice major and rapidly excelled in the classroom and concert hall. Her path changed when a family tragedy brought her college experience to a close and Geri retuned to Panama City to assist the family.
Geri and her mother moved to Tampa, Florida in the early 1950's, where she met and married Sgt. Angus W. McLean (Mack) of the USAF in 1952. This union yielded two sons and an opportunity to travel and live in France. She returned to Tampa in late 1958.
Recognizing her need and love for God, Geri joined Greater Mt. Carmel AMEC in 1961, after being a lifetime member of Bethel AMEC in Panama City. She has served as Secretary of the choir, a Trustee, a Missionary, Stewardess, Class Leader (#1), Treasurer of the Willing Workers, a member of the Senior Action Ministry, Financial Secretary, a member of Church School, the first female member of The Sons Of Allen, and is known as a founding Lay member.
Geri has also participated as a soloist in the annual 'HYMN -O- RAMA' program at Mt. Olive AMEC for 25 years.
Geri's life of service and love for others will live in the hearts and minds of her sons, Terrence and Kevin, Sr.; her grandchildren, Kevin, Jr., Geoffrey and Adrienne; her brother William Gainer; her nephews, Calvin Taylor (Christina) of Phoenix, Az, Ronald Gainer of San Diego, CA; her great-nephew, Cerrick Stevens (Stephanie) of Laurinburg, NC; her niece-in-law LaVerne McDougald of Laurinburg, NC; in-laws, Joan Hope and John Neal, III of Gainesville, FL, Valerie Parker (Kevin) and family of Tampa, FL; Geoffrey Neal (Vici) and family of Killeen, TX; her cousins, Charles Norman Thomas, Pearl Norman, Ruthel Rader, Mildred Banks, Michael Thomas, Carl Thomas and families of Los Angeles, CA, Dorothy Alexander, Edward George, Michael George, Ronald Rockingham (Gesla), Kenneth George, Dedra Alexander, Desiree Alexander, Kevin Alexander (Marlene), Michael Alexander of Tampa, FL, Wallace McDougald (Pam), Charles McDougald (Yvonne), Autumn McDougald of Cincinnati, Ohio, Wesley McDougald (Kenyetta) of Stafford, VA, Lynn Cotton, (Rodney), Roderick McDougald, Jerrold McDougald and Vincent McDougald of Laurinburg, NC.
