Gertrude Breedlove
Wilborn
May 20, 1937 – August 8, 2022
Gertrude Breedlove Wilborn was born on May 20, 1937, to Levi Breedlove, Sr. and Annie Mae Flemming, in Malone, Florida. She found the Lord and was baptized at an early age at Morning Star Church in Tampa, Fl. Her education began at Meecham Elementary and continued through Booker T. Washington which carried her on to become a standout 1956 graduate of Don Thompson High School as a Yellow Jackets Basketball Player. She went on to further her education by graduating from Gibbs Junior College with a Nursing degree and Hillsborough Community College with a degree in Behavioral Therapy.
Once Gertrude, had her education, the faith she carried with her allowed her to go out into the world and find her calling. That calling led her to J. Clifford MacDonald Training Center where she worked with the physically and mentally challenged children and later adults of Tampa, Florida She would go on to retire from that job after 33 years of service. At the time of her passing, some of her clients, as she affectionately called them, are still with us. Her clients and coworkers still referred to her with affection as "Momma Tobi".
Besides having been a loving wife, and mother; she was committed and faithful to the Lord. Gertrude, or "Tobi", as we the family called her; was later elevated to "GiGi" after the birth of her first great-granddaughter, Lyrik, who lovingly gave her that nickname and it stuck until she departed from us.
Gertrude had been a member of various churches in Tampa, Florida after leaving Morning Star MB Church. At one point in time, she had been a longtime faithful member of New Hope MB Church under Rev. John Willis; later moved her membership to New Mt. Silla MB Church under Rev. Moses Anglin. As time continued, she would move her membership to follow Rev. Terry Shoats and join his fledgling church at New Beginnings Tabernacle MB Church. After her eyesight began to fail, she followed her family to New Progress MB Church and became a member under Rev. Early Williams. Before her health started to decline, she became a founding member at Trinity and Faith Ministries under Rev. Vernon Young and Bishop Michelle B. Patty where she remained until her passing.
Throughout her life, she had been active with the Sunday School (at some points she played the role of the teacher as well as Superintendent). She was an active missionary in the church and held steadfast to the belief of being able to help others; be it by feeding the homeless or visiting nursing homes to spend time with those who may just need to know they were missed and thought of.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Levi Breedlove, Annie Mae "Fleming", and Jessie Byrd; husband, Willie James Wilborn; son, Anthony Riccardo Wilborn; brothers-in-law, James Wilborn and Johnnie Wilborn; sister-in-law, Mollie Johnson Slidell; niece, Wanda Tarver; and nephew, Ray Anthony Barnes.
