Obituary

A Homegoing Celebration for Deaconess Gladys R. Tyson of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019, will be held on Saturday, September 28th, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of College Hill, 3838 N. 29th Street, Rev. S. Evan Burrows, Senior Pastor, officiating. The interment will be held in Orange Hill Cemetery. Gladys R. Tyson was born February 6, 1947 in Durham, North Carolina to the late James Corey and Clara Martin. She graduated from Highs School 1966 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She received her AS Degree in teaching from Hillsborough Community College. She worked many years as a teacher's aide with special needs children. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother, Dora Griffin; 3 brother, Lester Martin, Jr., Clarence Martin, Sr. and Angelo Martin. She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her husband, Rev. Cliff Tyson; daughter, Doretha Gilmore Holder; grandson, Quinton Hall (Gianna); step-daughters, Gwendolyn Vinson; Emma Hearn, Gloria Robertson, April Cox and Rosa Young; step-sons, James Tyson (Doretha), Pastor Clifford Tyson (Tonda), Bruce Gilmore and Terrence Gilmore; 24 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; sisters, Diane Martin, Elise Day, Rosetta Martin, Dora Paulus, Pamela Live (Darrell), Althera Angelina Martin, Churby Alexander, Beverly Wilson (Charlie), Anna Harris and Betty Reed; brothers, Jerome Martin, Horace Corey, Sr. (Brenda), James Corey Jr., Elvin Corey, Sr., Ronald Corey and Dandrick Corey; 1 aunt, Cleo Barnwell; god-children, Emmie Jerelds, Preceida Richardson, Tarsha Harris, Clarence Guinyard, Quan Davis, Shereece Simon and Delta Spencer; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends; the Halls, Browns and Adams families, New Friendship M.B. Church, New St. Matthew M.B. Church, doctors, staff and patients of Dr. J. Ayer-Cole, Sickle Cell Foundation; Lifelink and Kidney Foundation. The visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of College Hill on Friday, September 27th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
