Mother Gloria J. Taylor passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2012. The Homegoing service will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at New Salem Primitive Baptist Church, 1605 Nebraska Avenue, with Elder Theodis Lane Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. Mother Gloria was born in Tampa, Florida on October 7th, 1948 to John Wesley and Emily Townes Marshall. Mother Taylor believed and trusted in the Lord as her only Saviour. She was a member of the Greater New Salem Primitive Baptist Church. Gloria attended schools within Hillsborough County (Harlem Elementary, Booker T. Washington Jr. High and Middleton High School). She also attended Saint Petersburg Jr. College, Clearwater, FL. She retired from Verizon Communications after 35 years as a Central Office Equipment Technician. Gloria was an active political advocate throughout Tampa Bay community for many years, participating in the Local, State and Federal Campaigns. She served as president of Northview Hills Civic Association and was recognized by the former Mayor of Tampa-Sandy Freeman, regarding her outstanding work within the community. Gloria became affiliated with the Lupus Alliance and served as a team captain for the annual lupus walks. Before her health began to fail she was very active with the Middleton Alumni group and the Middleton Family and Friends Alumni choir. As owner/ operator of Glotay desktop publishing, her creations included church programs, brochures, letters, business cards and wedding invitations. Gloria had an awesome spirit and the ability to reach many people through her love and laughter. Her beautiful smile was a glitter of light and a ray of sunshine that represented God's care for man-kind. She touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, exhibiting the love of God. She was a true computer techie and gadget queen! Mother Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emily Marshall; paternal grandparents, Willie and Eliza Marshall; maternal grandparents, Willie and Mattie Townes; aunts, Mattie Ponder and Willie Bea Ford and nephew, Arimus Hall. She leaves to mourn a loving devoted son, Dwayne Charles Taylor and daughter, Sonia Lashaune Taylor; grandchildren, Dwauna Lashawn Taylor (Darren ), Terrance D. Small (Shacora), Dwayne Charles Taylor II , Kenesha Denay Taylor, Bryan Taylor, Shaniya Lashawn Taylor, Daisha Lashawn Taylor, Nakayla Lashawn Taylor, great grandchildren, Da'Nyra Lashay Heyward, Terrance D. Jr., Tramaine, Taliyah and Johnathan Small; sisters, Brenda Marshall (Willie), Linda Spearman (Colonel Richard), Tallahassee, FL, Johnnye Hall (Kamau), Vista,CA, niece, Karis Spearman of Woodbridge, VA; nephews, Demetrius Marshall (Andresea), Richard Spearman III; great nephews, Demetrius Jr., Donavann, and Anderson Marshall, and Adonis Hall; great niece, Analiesa Marshall; cousins, Luther Wynn, Inez Fordham, Ola Lee Morrow, Bobbie Nell Smith, Tifton, GA; special friends, Jeanette Dixon, Gwendolyn Webster, Lillian Hobbs, Geraldine Christopher and a host of other relatives and friends. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, August 3rd, from 5-8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday for the service.
