A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Gregory Russell of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 2:00 p.m. at 34th Street Church of God, Pastor Thomas Scott, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Russell was born on November 15, 1958, in Tampa, Florida to the late Rev. Johnnie M. Russell and Mrs. Viola Russell. He was converted at an early age by his father. Mr. Russell was a graduate of Chamberlain High School and Brewster Technical College. He was employed by Perry Business Machines for three years and Jack Vollmer prior to working for the school district. He was employed with the Hillsborough County Public Schools in the Technology Department for almost thirty-eight years and was set to retire in October 2020. He was a wonderful man who loved his family dearly, enjoyed reading the Bible; his hobbies were cars and watching the San Francisco 49ers. Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Thomas J. Russell Sr., Johnnie L. Russell Sr., Joe T. Russell; sisters, Ines Russell Duchine, Mayola Mae Walker and Francine Russell; maternal grandmothers, Pearl Larry and Anna Sligh. He leaves to celebrate his life and carry on his legacy: his devoted and loving wife; Benita L. Russell, beloved and adoring son, Gregory Russell II; brothers, Carl B. Russell, Rondal (Vergina) Russell, and Dee Daniel Russel, sisters, Lorraine (Alphonso) Simmons, Dorothy Young, and Beverly Russell; nieces, Tonya (Patrick) Lavender, Timee (Oren) Denson, Tamala Russell, Mary Russell, Deniece Russell, Alise Russell, Kaitlyn Russell, Regina (Reginald) Williams, Sonya (Harry) Nicolas, Alva Simmons, Crystal Simmons, Trysha Brown, Tammi (Tyrone) Fisher, Asha Walker, Tatianna Howard, Thymecia Wilkerson, Dominque Russell, and LaTronda James; nephews, Terodney (Velecia) Russell, Thomas Russell Jr., Tavonte Russell, Chad Simmons, Gerald (Tonya) Russell, Jonathan Russell, Hubert Richardson, Herbert Richardson, Tyrone Gilbert, Keith (Anna) Muhammad, Carlton Russell, Rondal (Ashley) Russell II, Alex Russell, Roy Lee Howard, Dr. Spencer (Dr. Tiffany) James; 27 great nieces; 10 great nephews; aunts; Emma Rice and Queen Miller; brother-in-law, Elder Benjamin Adams; sisters-in-law; Teresa Adams-Gardner, Toya Adams and Marie James; cousins, Rice, Walton, Weston, Lang, Crawford, Hayes, Jackson, Cato, Jacobs, Williams, Martin, Russ, Burnnett, Chapman, Gordon, Moore and Miller families; special friend, Brian Hilery; and a host of relatives and friends, who even if not mentioned we hold dear to our hearts and we love you. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, January 31st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
