A homegoing celebration for Rev. Gutemberg Pierre of Ruskin, Florida who passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018, will be held on Saturday, September 22nd, 2:00 p.m. at Evening Star Tabernacle M.B. Church, 3716 E. Paris Street, Tampa, Florida 33610, Rev. Jerome Griffin, pastor officiating. The interment will be in Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida. Rev. Gutemberg Pierre was born March 29, 1949 in Port Au Prince, Haiti. He came to the U.S. in October 1969. He resided in New York, where he graduated from John Jay High School, Brooklyn, NY. He worked and attended New York University. Later, he met the love of his life and married, Shirley Pierre. This union of marriage created three children, Guttenberg, Ronald and the lovely, Michele. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1975 and the Army Reserve in 1980. They moved to Tampa, Florida in 1988 where he resided for the past 30 years. He worked at the James A. Haley Veteran Hospital for 19 years. He was an ordained minister and faithful member of Evening Star M.B. Church under, Pastor Jerome Griffin. He was also a member of the male choir until his health failed. Gutemberg leaves to mourn his wife of 45 years, Shirley; children, Guttenberg, Ronald and Angela Michele; grandchildren, Jahquis R. Duvert, Tatianna and Leilani Therameau, ChaRai' Grant, Jahzel and Ronald J. Pierre, Jr.; sisters, Yvette, Taciana and Carol; brothers, Edward, Evens and Ernest; dear friend, Thomas Mack; a host of other loving family members and friends who he highly favored. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, September 21st from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends during this time. The family and friends are asked to meet on Saturday at the church for the funeral ceremony.
