Requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of Mr. Hardrick Emanuel Gay of 4903 S. 83rd Street, who passed away, Tuesday, July 20, 2010, will be held Saturday, July 24th, 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1203 N. Nebraska Ave., Father Hugh Chikawe, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Hardrick was a native of Jacksonville, Florida and a resident of Tampa since 1964. He resided in Progress Village subdivision for many years. He was a 41 year employee of the State of Florida and Hillsborough County Health Department. Hardrick was a devoted member of the family business, Aikens Funeral Home for many years before retiring. He was an active member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, where he delighted in taking part in the liturgical rituals, participating as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector/Commentator, Usher, 4th Degree Knight of Peter Claver Council #379 and holding the office of Recording Secretary. He was a founding member of the New Horizon of Men and served as the First President. He also served as Director and Mentor of the youth in the early 80's. His educational experiences were through, Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Academy, New Station High School, Edward Waters College and Florida A & M University. After retirement, he found much satisfaction in helping others through volunteering in the Pastoral Care Department at St. Joseph's Hospital. He also found enjoyment in Scuba Diving and being a member of the original Progress Village CB Club. He leaves to cherish his fond memories: a devoted wife, Barbara Ephrom Gay; loving daughter, Desiree Green (Jarvis); adoring grandsons, Ryan C. Green and Johnathan D. Green, all of Stone Mountain, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Yvonne Aikens; Dr. Errol and Jacquie DeVeaux of Radcliff, KY and Ulysses (Bob) Robins, Atlanta, GA; nephews and nieces, Daryl Aikens (Maxine), Warner Robins, GA, Teryl Aikens (Rosalinde), La Cheryl Aikens, Nicole Aikens, Kevin DeVeaux, Candace DeVeaux, Carmetta Robins and Ebony Robins; grandnephews and grandnieces; aunt, Martha Thompson and family, a host of cousins among whom are Elizabeth Miller of Chester, PA, Luther Robinson (Dorothy), of Wilmington, DE, Yvonne Pendleton; and a host of other sorrowing cousins, family members and friends. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening. The Catholic wake service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Peter Claver Catholic School.
