Homegoing celebration for Sister Hazel Johnson who passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014 will be held Saturday, August 30th 2:00 p.m., at St. John Cathedral, 3401 E. 25th Avenue, Bishop Eddie Newkirk Senior Pastor with Pastor Dwight Newkirk, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Sister Hazel Johnson life began on December 16, 1930, in Marianna, Florida born to the parents of Theodore Barnes and Agnes Barnes. She was the oldest of two sisters and one brother. She professed Christ at an early age and was a member at St John Missionary Baptist Church. She was joined in marriage to Edward Johnson Jr. On February 7, 1948. She was preceded in death by, son, Sergeant Norris Johnson. Hazel was a very wise and intelligent woman of God, she knew that Jesus was her Lord and Savior. Her family was the love of her life and nothing came before God and family, she loved them with all her heart and soul, she was always willing to help others who were in need, she lived a joyful and fulfilled life but now she's living the everlasting life! She leaves to cherish memories, a loving sister Ester Barnes Simons (Anthony); a loving and devoted nieces Brenda Couch (Tensley, Jr.), Cynthia Jones (Daniel), Leslie Bell and Valarie DePass (Michael); 3 nepews, Edward Cannon (Sandra), Terrance Cannon (Wendell) and Alonzo Barnes, Jr. (Sharice); 4 great nieces, Sharica Barnes, Erica Copeland, Andrecia Baker and Brittany Baker; 4 great nepews, Terrell Wallace, Larry Mitchell, Cory Copeland and Cedric Barnes; 2 great-great nepews, Elijah Graham and Isaiah Copeland; 2 great-great nieces, De'Nashia and Tamya Mitchell; cousins, Lurence Curtis of Havanna and family, Tensley Couch Sr. of Marianna FL. and family Carla Sconiers Irene Robinson Miami FL Jean Stewart and family; goddaughter, Linda Joyce; devoted friends, Shirley Mckinzie (Chester),Nancy Johnson and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Auntie, you will be deeply missed and your memories will live on forever in our Hearts! A precious leader of our family is gone. A voice we loved to hear is still, a place is vacant in our home that can never be filled! The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, August 29th from 5-8 p.m. The friends and family are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
