Homegoing celebration for Mr. Herbert "Sonny" Mitchell who passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the James Haley Veterans Hospital, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 14th, at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Rev. Quantai Washington, officiating. Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery. Herbert "Sonny" Mitchell as he was affectionately called by his family and friends was born on January 23, 1933, to the late Annie Mae and James (Jimmy) Mitchell in Tampa, Florida. He accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He attended the public schools of Hillsborough County and was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. He was a disabled veteran with a pleasing personality. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Mae and James Mitchell and three brothers, Albert, Ronald and James Mitchell. He leaves to cherish his precious memories and legacy of his life with: four sisters, Alberta Reed of Tampa, FL, Yvonne Mitchell-Willis of Douglasville, GA, Marjorie Dixon (Willie) and Cynthia Mitchell of Tampa; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, December 13, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the service.
