Obituary

Homer Duke IV was born on April 20, 1970, in Tampa, Florida. He received Christ at an early age and served at Northside Missionary Baptist Church under Reverend J. Jordan. He later became, and remained, a faithful member of House of Hope in Decatur under the leadership of Dr. Dewey Smith. He attended school in Hillsborough County, and graduated from Tampa Bay Tech in 1988, and earned his master's from FAMU in 1994 where he was known as Da Duke of Funk when he was a DJ. After graduation, he relocated to Atlanta, working at Graham's Middle School, Job Corps, Delta Airlines, DFA and Southern Crescent Technical College Griffin campus. He truly cherished his family and rarely missed an opportunity to be present, especially at family gatherings and reunions.

Known as the life of the party, Homer had a vibrant spirit that could light up any room he walked into. His laughter was contagious, his stories unforgettable, and his presence brought joy, warmth and connection to everyone around him. Whether he was cracking jokes, reminiscing on old memories, or simply bringing people together, he made every moment feel special. Homer loved traveling, drawing, watching old movies, meeting new people and capturing life through photography—taking pictures of everything and everyone. His ability to turn ordinary moments into lasting memories is a gift that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Duke III; grandparents, Elmore and Jessie Mae Jordan, and Homer Duke II and Ruth Duke-Bryant; uncles, Cliff Duke and Willie Jordan (Bessie B.); and aunts, Dorothy Brook, Rev. Willie, Mattie Pinamang and Charlie B. Giles.

He leaves plenty loved ones to cherish his memory; his mother, Juanita Wright and Don Wright, Sr.; a blended family of brothers and sisters: Cliff Duke, Don, Jr., Allen, Kenny, Keith (Charlotte), Lisa, Sonia and Renée; aunts, Sonia Wright and Joanne Jackson; uncle, James Wright; cousins, Telicia, Lynette, Evette, Carla, Kita and Renita; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and other sorrowing family and friends.
