June 26, 1935 – August 2, 2023
A Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Hope V. Bent, of Tampa, Florida, who passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, will be held on Sunday, August 20th, 1:00p.m., at Aikens Funeral Home 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The interment will follow to her hometown of Christiana, Manchester, Jamaica. Hope, affectionately known as "Mummy," "Grandma," "Aunt Hope," and "Hopie," was born June 22, 1935, in Spring Ground, Manchester, Jamaica, to the late George Egbert Newman and Ina Lillian Beezer-Newman. In 1980, Hope and her family emigrated to the United States, a significant decision that brought new opportunities and experiences. This move was lovingly supported by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Owen Newman (Edith), and Oswald Newman (Cynthia), who stood by her side during this transitional period.
Hope was a gentle, yet strong and determined lady, known for her caring nature and compassionate heart. She had a particular sensitivity to children in need. Whether it was stepping in boldly to defend a child or offering support to struggling families, her kindness was felt by many. Hope will be remembered always for her warm smile, caring heart, and enduring spirit. Hope was a devoted grandmother, she shared a special bond with her grandchildren, extended care, and wisdom, and created cherished memories they will hold dear forever. Hope was a devout and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, may she find eternal peace and life with her Savior.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Egbert Newman and Ina Lillian Beezer-Newman; husband, Cecil L. Bent; brothers, Eric (Doris), Oswald (Cynthia), Roy (Peggy), Clifton, Albert (Regina), and Winston (Sheila). She leaves behind her children, Angela H. Bent-Williams (Keith), Michael St. George Bent (Cindy), Odette M. Bent-Buckles (Ronald), Ronald A. Bent; stepdaughter, Jennifer Stevenson-Bent; grandchildren, Janine Williams, Candice Buckles-Dyer (Jesse), Jordan Williams, Courtney Bent, Morgan bent, Maxi bent, C. Briggs Bent and Weynika Bent-Evans(step); great grandchildren, Jaden Harvin, Avana Williams, Alexandriene Dyer, and Amall Barrett(step); nieces, Joy Newman, Sheron Riggs, Pamela Webb, Faye Thomas, Patsy Chong, Diane Thompson, Ingrid Bogolis, Sheryl Coleman, and Michelle Sheller; nephews, Carl, Michael, Howard, Dave, Dwight, Richard, and Robert Newman; dear friends, Angela, Linda, Zorida, Robert, and Steven Dibbs; and a host of other relatives and friends.
