Obituary

A Celebration of life for Mr. Horsly Shorter, Sr. of 3035 38th Street, who passed away, Monday, February 2, 2009, will be held on Saturday, February 14th, at 11:00 a.m., at New Friendship M.B. Church, 3201 E. Lake Avenue, with Rev. H.L. Daniels, pastor officiating. Interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Horsly Shorter, Sr., was born in Reynolds, Georgia to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie and Nora Shorter. He attended the public schools of Macon County. Mr. Shorter moved to Tampa, Florida in 1969, where he worked at Cargill Fertilizer Company for 16 years and retired in 1985. Mr. Shorter was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters-in-law, Smith (Bertha) Shorter, Jim Shorter, Clifford (Doreatha) Shorter and Willie Troutman, sisters, Mildred (Joe) Shorter-Bell, and Ozie (Ozzie) Shorter-McClendon and grandson, Jhamarqus Williams. Mr. Horsly Shorter, Sr., leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Mrs. Hattie L. Shorter; 8 children, Ozie (James, Sr.) Carson, Ft. Myers, FL, Wilbert (Mary) Shorter, Tampa, Annie L. Shorter, Butler, GA, Ella Coleman, Tampa, David (Ruby) Shorter, Tampa, Clarence Shorter (Stephanie), Montgomery, AL, Horsley Shorter, Jr., Severn, MD, and Trinetta (George) Williams, Brandon; 30 grandchildren, Jhamari, Nyiha, Daniel, Marquis, LaToya, Clarence, Jr., Quentralla, Tarnishia (Harvey), Markel (Anedra), Johnesha, Lil Kim, Latoria, Magel, Jeremiah, Tanisha, Bernell, Lakeysha (Michael), Melinda (Michael), Delivia, Stanley, Linda, Melisa, Tammy, Christopher, James, Jr., Janice, Jennifer (Richard), Cassandra (James), and Debra (Bruce); 47 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; godson, Robert Kelly, Tampa; goddaughter, Sis. Kathy Vance; devoted friends, Mr. Eddie Davis and Mr. Willie James Carson; and a host of sorrowing nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.; if we have omitted anyone it was of mind, not of heart. The remains will repose at Aikens Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The funeral cortege will arrange from 3035 38th Street.
