Obituary

A Catholic Mass Celebration of Life for Mrs. Ida Mae Nix of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 will be held Saturday, June 8th, 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1203 N. Nebraska Ave., Father Hugh Chikawe, pastor; Father Ed Lamb, officiating. The interment will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Ida Mae Nix, a long-time resident of the Tampa Bay area, was called home to the Lord at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born in 1933 in Madison, Florida. Ida received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of South Florida. She furthered her love for education at the University of Tampa, where she received a Master of Education in Nursing. Ida worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital Tampa, Florida until her retirement. Ida was a Life Member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Gamma Theta Omega Chapter and a Charter Member of Chi Eta Phi Sorority. In addition, she served as a member of the Diocese of St. Petersburg Ladies Guild as well as the Catholic Women Club. Ida's talents were many, she was an extremely accomplished nurse, a mentor, a beloved wife, a mother, a grandmother, a community volunteer and a friend who loved to entertain. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Pearlie Murphy; five sisters and one brother. She is survived by her sweetheart and husband of 67 years, Joseph Nix and their three children, Joann Carter (Noble) of Tampa, Florida, Michael Nix (Connie) of Land O' Lakes, Florida and Kerry Nix (Elizabeth) of Orlando, Florida along with ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers; one sister; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. There will be NO VIEWING. The family willgreet friends onFriday, June 7th, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Aikens FuneralHome Chapel. The Ivy Beyond The Wall Ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m.The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Ida requested donations be made to her beloved Chapter, Gamma Theta Omega of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; checks payable to: Gamma Theta Omega, Inc., P.O. Box 1246, Tampa, Florida 33601.
