Obituary

Take my hand, precious Lord. Acknowledging God's gentle tap with an obedient nod and a peaceful smile, Sister Irene Hunter Brinson was called home to glory on December 20, 2017. Homegoing services will be conducted Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 2 pm at Friendly Missionary Baptist Church, 2012 North Tampania Street, in Tampa, Florida 33607, with Pastor Johnnie Miller officiating. The Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Sister Irene Hunter Brinson was born on August 29, 1941, in Benton, Mississippi, relocated to Tampa, Florida when she was a pre-teen, and graduated from Howard W. Blake High School, where she met and married a fellow Yellow Jacket, Deacon Freddie J. Brinson, Sr., star offensive and defensive football player (Big Forty). She was a woman of quiet style and amazing grace. She liked traveling and collecting hats, and she loved three things: shoes, shoes, and more shoes! Sister Brinson was priceless as a selfless wife, mother, and grandmother who generously shared her love, care, and support; and, when storms were raging she helped guide her family through with power-filled prayers. Sister Brinson was a dedicated member of Friendly Missionary Baptist Church for 40 plus years. She was active in numerous roles such as the Sunday School Superintendent, Chair of the Deaconess Board, President of a Mission, a Choir Member, and a Youth Director. She joyfully used her God-given talent for service in every aspect of her life to make a positive difference with family, friends, and countless others. Sister Brinson's on-going love for the Lord illuminated her path as a walking witness. It is also uplifting to note that with each passing day, even in the midst of numerous tribulations, she exercised her faith and continued to thank and praise the Lord. Sister Brinson was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Deacon Freddie J. Brinson, Sr., her parents Joe and Dorsey Hunter, and a brother, Darnell Hunter. She leaves to cherish precious memories of her wondrous love, boundless service to others, and her undying dedication to God: her son, Freddie Brinson, Jr. (Jencey) and daughter, Dr. Sabrina A. Brinson; grandchildren, ShaVonne, Freddie III, ShaTayshia, Samuel, and Sheridan; great-grandchild, Grant; a sister, Jacquelyn Hunter (special caregiver), and brothers, Joe Hunter, Jr., Fredrick Hunter, and Reginald Hunter; a brother-in-law, Reverend Arthur Brinson, and a sister-in-law, Sharon Brinson; special caregivers (Diana Hicks-Ellison and Jimmie Hicks), and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. There will be a viewing on Friday, December 29, 2017, at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. M.L. King Jr. Boulevard, Tampa, Florida 33610 from 5 - 8 pm, with the family present to receive visitors from 7 - 8 pm. Friends are asked to assemble at the church on Saturday, December 30th at 1:45 pm for the service.
