Religious Life of Irma Jean Davis
Irma Jean Davis accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She was baptized in 1992 at Peter Rest Seven Day Adventist Church in Christiansted St. Croix, Virgin Island. It was obvious she was a beautiful, attractive, kind, and loving woman. After approximately a year and six months, she got married to Mr. Rupert Davis she was a praying woman. A year after her baptism she prayed for her son at the time to become an SDA Christian also. Her love for God was evident in her concentrated prayers and invitations to her family, friends, and co-workers to church. Many of her family members got baptized. She was very active in the community service department of her local church. It was her delight to cook, feed, and communicate with the homeless people. She also sang in the church choir. Even though she gave birth to only four children, her house was a place of refuge for many of her nieces and nephews. Her heart was always open to anyone. On January 2, 1949, a bouncing and beautiful girl was born in New York City to the parents of Helena Plasket Joseph (Rhymer) and Henry Joseph. The family relocated to the irresistible scenic paradise of St. Croix US Virgin Island at the tender age of two.
Her education foundation began at the Juanita Garden Elementary. She successfully advanced to the Elean Christian Jr. High School and then the Central High School. Although she did not complete high school, she was determined to learn the academic and vocational skills that were required for her to be purposeful and enduring employment. She attended Job Corp in New York. She always insisted on any children the importance of fishing high school and going to college.
Industrial Exploits
Irmas first job was at Time Max Watch Factory. The insatiable desire for growth and development was her motivation. She was employed at the Florence Williams Library. She embraced the ability to communicate with people in a friendly way and therefore deal with them effectively. It propelled her to apply for a job with the Department of Education as a teachers aide paraprofessional. She loved teaching so much that she eventually thought science called for a whole school year. She impacted many of the future leaders in her society. She worked there for 25 years and retired because she had a massive stroke.
Irma gave birth to four children. One girl and three boys. The eldest Adelle Rymer, Glenford Simon, Jr, and twin that was stillborn. Clinto Liburd is the youngest. She was a single parent, provider, and protector. That was until she married Kenneth Williams. She was a strict and meticulous mother. Her words were law. She taught her children how to cook, clean iron, wash, and survive. She was a fighter literally and figuratively in life.
She was preceded in death by her son; sister, Brenda Gail Joseph, Cherridan Rhymer; and brother, Uriel Codrington, Axel Simmonds
