Obituary

A Homegoing Celebration for Isabel Maria Contrera-Waterman of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Saint Joseph's Hospital will be held on Tuesday, December 15th, at 2:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Tampa, Florida, Reverend Streeter, officiating.


Isabel was born on January 3, 1960 in Caracas, Venezuela to Albert Contrera and the late Patricia Contrera-Waterman. During her childhood, the family moved to Trinidad where, she attended Mucurapo Girls Roman Catholic School. In 1969, her family moved back to Venezuela, where she attended Santo Angel Elementary School. In 1973 she moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she attended Winthrop Middle School and then went to Lafayette High School. Isabel made her way to Tampa, Florida in 1991, where she then attended Erwin Technical College and earned her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree. Isabel continued her education by attending Fortis College in Tampa, FL, where she earned her Registered Nurse Degree. Isabel had a love for animals, and especially enjoyed caring for her dogs Oreo and Lucky. However, her true passion was caring for her grandchildren. On her off time, she enjoyed dancing and singing Karaoke. She was dedicated to her family and friends and was always there in times of need. Isabel worked at the Habana Health Center Tampa, Florida as the Lead Nurse for over 15 years and was highly devoted to the service of caring for her patients. At a time in Tampa's history when we owe so much to our healthcare workers; A Letter of Commendation was presented by Tampa City Council to her family on her behalf. An award giving her special praises for her nursing leadership and dedication. In addition, Habana Health Center renamed a Hospital Wing in her honor, which will be a source of patience and comfort to her team and family!


Isabel was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Wayne, Sr.; mother, Patricia; loving grandmothers, Gwendolyn and Juliana; great-aunts, Beatrice Snaggs and Rita Waterman; great-uncle, Victor Waterman and cousin, Pamala


She leaves behind her sons, James Jr., (Nikkeia), Nicolas and Michael Jr., (Sheila); brothers, David (Daisy) and Micheal (Leida); sisters, Carolina, Susana, and Brenda; grandchildren, Honesty, Nyla, Nadia, Jaleah, James III, Michael III and Mason; aunts, Yoland and Joyce; nephews, Raymond, Mikel, Christian, and Douglas; nieces, Faith, Daniela, and Angeline; cousins, Khari, Herschel , Joel, AnnMarie and Devina; best friends Cassandra, Claudette, Rosa, Morima and many other family members and friends that will forever hold her memory close to their heart.


The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Monday, December 14th, 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday for the service. We are following the CDC guidelines. The services will be live streamed at www.aikensfuneralhome.com website.
