A memorial celebration for Mr. Iva Minor of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2012, will be held on Saturday, February 4th, 1:00 p.m. at Grace Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 3901 N. 37th Street, Rev. Thomas J. Reed, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery. Iva Minor was born September 1, 1939 in Greenville, Florida. He moved to Tampa when he was a small child. Mr. Minor was educated in Hillsborough County Schools, graduating from Middleton Senior High School, class of 1957. He served his country in the U.S. Marines as a Lance Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1961. He was the first African American to become a Supervisor Foreman with the City of Tampa, Sanitation Department. Iva enjoyed in his early years golf, fishing and watching football games. He also enjoyed barbequing for his family and friends and loved to travel. Iva was preceded in death by his parents, James and Thelma Minor, son, Irvin Miller, grandson, Saadiq R. Minor, siblings, Annie Mae, George, Malachi and Joe Minor and Rosa Lee Monroe. He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories: 4 daughters, Yolanda Minor McCrimmon (Larry), Minister Colette Minor Avant (George), Fern Minor Dorsey (Robert) and Iris Minor Hayes (Nathan); step-daughters, Vanessa Toombs Mitchell, Monique Minor Andrews (Andra) and Marsha McCallister; 21 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a very devoted companion, Loretta Gilbert; 3 sisters, Dorothy Goins (Charles), Catherine Harvey (Lee) and Thelma Billings (Eddie); 1 brother, Willie James Minor (Eva); brother-in-law, George Monroe; and a host of sorrowing devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including, Lillie Toombs Minor (mother of his children), Marie Curry and children; Ricky Relford (Lisa) and children and Gary Mitchell; a devoted special life time friend, Fannie Hicks and family; close friends of many years, Alford Watson and John Lowman. The family will have a dinner immediately following the service to receive friends. The request by the family is casual attire for the service. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church for the memorial celebration.
