Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Ivory Odell Gadson, Sr. "Sugarman" of Tampa, who departed this life on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, will be held on Saturday, September 20th, 2:00 p.m. at New Mt. Zion M.B. Church, 2511 E. Columbus Drive, Rev. Larry L. Roundtree II, with Rev. Aaron Hobley, officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. Ivory was the second child born to Mr. and Mrs. John L. and Avella Miller Gadson in Colquitt, Georgia on November 22, 1946. He attended the public schools in Baker County, Georgia before relocating to Florida as a teenager and graduating in 1964 from Blake High School. He served his country in the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. Ivory was a retired longshoreman. His favorite color was red and he enjoyed talking to his buddies at McDonalds, Burger King and the Open CafAC.. His hobbies as a young man included drag racing, and talking on the CB radio. Ivory was the owner of Gadson Lawn Service until his health began to fail. He was a dialysis patient for over 20 years. He accepted the Lord as his Savior at an early age. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Michelle Gadson. He leaves to cherish his memories with: his 3 daughters, Silena Burns of Newton, Georgia, Sonia Tolbert of Tampa and Fontella (Linwood) Bundy of Staunton, Virginia; 3 sons, Ivory O. Gadson, Jr., Rayshaun (Monica) Gadson of Tampa and John T. Walker of Atlanta, GA; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 6 sisters, Johnnie (Rev. Carl) Harris, Henrietta (Deacon Julious) Walton, Yvonne (Deacon Oscar) Douglas, Betty Broadway of Tampa, Minnie White and Alice Faye Williams of Albany, Georgia; 3 brothers, Bobby Gadson, William Gadson and Dauny Dallas all of Tampa; 5 aunts, Hattie Miller of Tampa, Ethel Dae and Charlie Mae Miller of Bainbridge, Georgia, Johnnie Mae Miller of South Carolina and Fannie Ella Elliott of Largo; uncle, Elvis Moore of Colquitt, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, September 19th, from 5-8 p.m. at. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to wear red and black and meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
